Hong Kong Promenade
The harbour is visible from seventy-three kilometres of waterfront property
Hong Kong’s Victoria Harbour is a fantastic amalgamation of man-made and natural beauty. It contains a continuous flow of mesmerising marine traffic, with views of 100-plus-floored skyscrapers, historic stone buildings, a cable-stayed bridge, jagged mountains, and tropical forests. The harbour is visible from seventy-three kilometres of waterfront property and is the singular most enduring source of collective pride for Hong Kong people.
I have watched the promenades along the Hong Kong Island side of the harbour develop and evolve, so I decided to find out if there is a continuous harbourfront path from Kennedy Town to Wan Chai. My chosen starting point was the intersection of Davis and New Praya Streets in Kennedy Town.
Within a block, I was in the Kennedy Town Waterfront Sitting Out Area, which is popular with men and their fishing rods. This soon gave way to the Belcher Bay Promenade.
From there I walked through the Western District Public Cargo Working Area. Joggers and dog walkers seem to outnumber workers. I returned at sunset to discover that photographers dominate this site. The pier is colloquially known as the Instagram Pier, as it offers a perfect location for capturing sunsets over the nearby Green Island.
Hong Kong’s premier promenade is approximately seven kilometres long and meanders through several harbourside districts that provide a fabulous tour of the sights and delights of Victoria Harbour.
