Highlighted local animation talent

The screening was set against Hong Kong’s harbour skyline. The evening was spectacular, and it reignited the fun and excitement of watching movies in the open-air. The showcase highlighted the local animation talent producing poignant shorts on close-to-home subjects. It also showed that there is a local audience that will readily embrace innovative films.

The Everywhere – People Cinema showcased ifva, formerly the Hong Kong Independent Short Film and Video Awards. Founded by the Hong Kong Arts Centre, and Asia’s pioneering force in providing a unique and professional platform for Hong Kong and Asian creative talents to unite to exchange and promote their works in short film, animation, and media arts. Every year ifva promotes professionally renowned Awards and Festivals.

Specifically, the screening of the showcase of animation was purposefully organised to make media arts accessible to people from all walks of life. Admission was free, and audiences were encouraged to “bring your own mat”.

The showcase of ifva Award winners screened showed that Hong Kong has talented animators and storytellers. Offering a variety of themes and styles, the short films were chosen from the 20th to 24th ifva Awards Animation Category.

These animations made by emerging local talent have gained recognition here, with their placement in the ifva awards, as well as abroad, by winning awards also in international competitions. The acclaim is well deserved.

Each animation presents the director’s/animator’s unique perspective. Some are intensely personal and share views of life and the challenges of being a part of this world.
