My “Fountain of Youth” is “EXERCISE”

Going to the gym is my biggest challenge

Once I commit and make it to the gym, my routine involves a combination of stretching and meditation, strength training, running, and bouncing to stress my bones and joints gently.

5 Benefits of Exercise

  • Strengthen bones and muscles
  • Enhance the quality of sleep
  • Boost immunity
  • Increase agility and flexibility
  • Improve memory and brain function

When I discovered “mindfulness meditation” and incorporated it into my workout routine, it was wholly pivotal. I found that mediation with “exercise” can benefit both the body and the mind simultaneously.

5 Benefits of Meditation

  • Foster relaxation
  • Improve mental discipline
  • Boost self-awareness
  • Focus on the present moment
  • Increase emotional control

  • Meditate and focus your thoughts and actions on the present moment
  • Listen to gentle coaching, with soothing background music
  • Breathe with guidance, IN through your nose, OUT through your mouth

The Mobility for Life Stretch and Meditation Method is SIMPLE

3 Things to Focus On

  • The numbers on a clock
  • Your breathing
  • The muscle you are stretching

Think of Numbers on a Clock

We use the numbers on the face of a clock to guide us through the routine of stretches and rotations.

Breathing and Meditation Exercise

With each number and stretch, we breathe deeply IN through the nose and OUT through the mouth.

The POWER of the Mind & Body Connection

As we stretch, we focus on the muscles being stretched and give our attention entirely to our body and its amazing abilities to heal, grow, and sustain itself.

The Mobility for Life Method, Stretch and Meditation, is a Part of a Routine

You can use any of these guided videos as part of your exercise routine to augment a morning wake-up session, or anytime throughout the day to stretch and relax.

Life Begins

I had an epiphany when I turned 50.

I thought I would resign myself to the familiar adage about people who reach this age: “there are FEWER years ahead than behind”.

For a moment, I thought that was true โ€“ for me.

Until I had a thought โ€“ what if there are MORE years ahead instead?

Staying young at any age

I had just attended my friend’s 90th birthday celebration. Violet Chan was my Sunday school teacher who became my lifelong friend and family. She looked fabulous. Her hair is salt-and-pepper colour.

She stands straight and tall. She is still driving, bowling, swimming, and thinking up new projects to keep in touch with her “chosen family” of forty-plus people, including all the “kids” from her old Sunday school classes, their spouses, their children, and now their grandkids.

She still sends me parcels of homemade handicrafts in time for Christmas. She is amazing.

What if I lived to her ripe old age of 90? That means I’d have another 40 years ahead.

Or what if I lived to be 106? Sir Run Run Shaw, the esteemed Hong Kong philanthropist, passed on at this age. When he was 100, he was still sprightly and attending events and celebrations for his Shaw Prize Foundation, which many regard as the “Nobel Prize of the East”.

If I could emulate him, I’d have another 56 years ahead.

Then I freaked out.

If there are more years ahead, then I need to make some substantial changes.

I had to face some hard truths.

I had to do something about my deteriorating body. It was getting weaker.

I had to do something about my sagging body parts. They were getting saggier.

I had to do something about my weight. My clothes were getting tighter.

I had to do something about my…duh…memory? I forgot things. Often, the instant I thought of doing something, I would rush to do itโ€ฆand the second it took me to get started, I had already forgotten what I was supposed to do.

Living Longer and Healthier

I realised then that to live a longer, healthier, and more robust life, I must make a dramatic pivot.

The first thing I did was reverse the decline in my mind and body.

It took commitment and determination to make that happen. But it was easier than I thought it would be.

With some guidance and encouragement, I know that anyone else can do it, too.

Here I share my journey and what I am doing to stay strong, lucid, and mobile for life.

Enjoy the journey to good health!
