Hike, Bike, Canoe, Kayak even Sail High in the Rockies

Colorado is awash in lakes. Some as large as twenty-six miles across, many high in the Rockies. Lake Dillon was merely five miles from stem to stern and man-made at that, thanks to a Dam construction. But it’s picturesquely surrounded by peaks as high as 13,000 feet. And Dillon was only eighty miles away by car.

So, Colorado and Lake Dillon were our oysters, so to speak — our destination of the moment.

We booked an Airbnb in the historic old mining town of Frisco (population 3,000), packed our bags, told our GPS where to go and set off.

An hour and a half later, we arrived at our destination, a little log cabin tucked in among the pines — very Rockies and postcard picture perfect.

With only three days to see and do it all, we bought tickets for a play in nearby Silverthorne for our first night. In search of a place for our pre-theatre dinner, we ambled along the delightfully flower-bedecked Main Street of wee Frisco to the highly touted Tavern West… and fortuitously, a Happy Hour like no other.
